When Eurodam was refurbished in 2015, it was the first ship to add B.B. King’s Blues Club, and has become one of the liveliest nightspots on the ship. Our cruise began on September 1 so the amount of young children was really minimal. There’s trivia contests, dance lessons, computer classes and more. Everything is listed in the daily planner that you’ll receive at bedtime.

After the 45 minute show, we tried to find seats at the overflowing Billboard Onboard. Not seeing any spaces, some of our fellow media snagged some chairs at the nearby Gallery Bar instead. Even the dessert was better than we would have anticipated for an Asian restaurant. Everyone agreed that the “cheesecake” offered a tart, yet flavorful final course, much like key lime pie. For dinner, she went with the chicken curry, which was mild and came with a light sauce. Although, it was a hefty serving of shrimp and vegetables.

It’s divided into age groups and may be a good fit for your family’s needs. We used the lounge every day, whether for the champagne reception, grabbing a cookie before bed, getting information to book a shore excursion, or having a light afternoon snack. The Lounge was always well staffed, with food replenished regularly, two or three concierges available to help with anything we needed.

You’re limited to a certain number of fish total, so our guide had to drop a couple of the rockfish back down. When we arrived, we had to show our driver’s licenses (or passports) to obtain a fishing license for the trip. We were able to pay with a credit card and it was $25, kids & teens (not from Alaska) under 16 don’t have to have a license.
The food, the atmosphere, and the service are all equally outstanding. Additionally, when you want to watch the sunset from your patio, you can have your dinners delivered from the main dining room. The Explorations Cafe is located in the Crow’s Nest, an extensive area in the front of the ship used for games, puzzles, wildlife watching, and exploring.
If you’re on the fence about what Alaska shore excursions might be right for you, definitely go with this one if you’re interested in fishing, wildlife, and good stories. Also, if you stop like our group did a few times to listen to the guide, there are midges (insects) that will bite your face. My dad didn’t feel them biting him and when we got back to the ship, I gasped because his whole forehead looked like he had the measles. For most, the nine hours spent cruising through the waters of Glacier Bay National Park is the pinnacle of their Alaskan cruise. She was adamant that we were going to get to the show tonight, as this would be the only time we could catch the comedians with the nighttime entertainment lineup. Once inside the fjord, the jagged granite mountainsides, carved by centuries of glacial activity, glowed in the basking sunlight. We also had some wildlife sightings, from sea lions soaking up rays to mountain goats darting the hillside.

That’s followed by the bread presentation, a warm cloth-wrapped loaf accompanied by numerous spreads and bites. This was the favorite dinner spot for all three of us, and we ate here twice (actually, a third time as it served as the venue for a pop-up – details below). Since we were sailing in a Neptune Suite, we also had separate access to the dining room which allowed us to avoid lines. We have wine at dinner nearly every night at home, and a cruise isn’t going to be any different. The Mainstage was home to various headliner acts, while Lincoln Center Stage hosted classical music sets. King’s Blues Club featured upbeat live performances from jazz to 70’s funky and dance music, and even comedy shows. That’s not a reflection on the food that’s prepared, but on my personal tastes. I’ve tried to provide specific responses to our dining selection as well as give some recommendations to help you decide what choice is right for you. We weren’t certain, however, how the teen would adapt to a day at sea. Turns out, he needed downtime every bit as much as we did. He had finished up finals at college just two days earlier, and he appreciated the unstructured time as well. The downtown is mainly bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops, but there’s quite a bit to do in the area. I opted for the helicopter trek of the Mendenhall Glacier, which was a fantastic decision (more on that later). I had only been on a couple of cruises prior to this, wich were rather short and felt like a mixture between McDonald’s and a frat party, to be honest.
Like previous nights, we finished dinner with just a few minutes to spare before the 9 pm showtime. This time around, we convinced essentially everyone to join us for the main theater show. With rich chunks of beef and baked gnocchi, it was a hearty and satisfying pasta dish. Heidi also went with one of the homemade pastas, pasta genovese, which she enjoyed. While soaking up some final rays, we were treated to perhaps the best send off of the cruise. There was a pod of orcas probably a half mile from the ship with some impressive breaching action.
